No matter where she lived, San Francisco, Grass Valley or Walnut Creek, all in California, she would immerse herself in Bible studies, conducting readings at her home or at church, usually with ladies of her age, people the rest of the family never knew.

At Bea's funeral, among the mourners, there was a large number of ladies Bea's age, some slightly younger. I, my brothers and my dad, had never met them. We were told that those women had been part of the group that Bea had led through years of Bible studies wherever she lived. ⁵
